Loving Yourself Enough to Have Tough Conversations
While writing the book that is only weeks away from being published, “Love Yourself First: Creating a Foundation for the LYF You Desire,” I began work on the follow-up specifically focused on romantic relationships. Right now, it simply has a working title, “COACHMarital.” Here’s a blog-sting from the work in progress.
Most people don’t have the tough conversations because they are not understanding the following:
- Your Feelings are Valid: Even if your emotions aren’t fully formed or expressed in the best way, they still hold value. Recognize the importance of acknowledging and honoring your feelings, regardless of their clarity or eloquence.
- Learning is Acceptable: You can learn and develop better ways of expressing your emotions. Embrace the opportunity to enhance your communication skills, allowing for clearer and more effective expression of your feelings.
- Supportive Individuals Offer Space: Surround yourself with people who genuinely care about your well-being. They should provide a safe environment where you can freely explore and develop your expression of emotions, fostering understanding and personal growth.
- Expression of Feelings is Critical: Your expression, regardless of its form, is crucial for effective communication. Communication cannot happen without the willingness to express oneself. Remember, the goal is not perfect communication, but rather consistent and meaningful dialogue that aims to approach truth and understanding.
- Prioritize Being True over Being Right: Seeking truth holds more value than being “right.” “Right” is subjective and relative to different perspectives, while truth provides a consistent foundation. Strive for authenticity and truthfulness in your communication, as it cultivates genuine connections and fosters a sense of consistency.
- True for you can change. You are not bound to remain stagnant in your beliefs or perspectives. Recognize that personal growth and self-discovery can lead to shifts in your understanding and values. It is vital to ensure that your principles are well-founded, rooted in thoughtful consideration and introspection. Your preferences should be clearly linked to who you are, reflecting your authentic self. Embrace the fluidity of truth and allow yourself the freedom to evolve, making space for growth and fostering open-mindedness in challenging conversations.
By understanding these reasons, you can empower yourself to engage in tough conversations, embracing the journey of personal growth and fostering meaningful connections with others. Remember, your voice and expression matter, and each conversation brings an opportunity for self-discovery and deeper understanding. By acknowledging this, you empower yourself to engage in dialogue with an open heart and a willingness to learn and adapt, promoting personal growth and fostering richer connections with others. Remember, embracing change and self-reflection is a powerful catalyst for personal transformation and deeper understanding.
